302/maf
How much is a MAF system worth? complete with computer and harness.
How about the motor, I know the guy that owns it and its full history, it was babied all its life. Had 18k on it when he bought it. Has just over 60 on it now some odd 18 years later. He has always had several cars and rarely drove that one.
Second tranny now and he doesn't want to put a third in it if that turns out to be whats needed.
I took it for a little spin today, looks bad for it. Dip stick even had metal on it!
Anyway what is that kind of system worth to someone wanting to change from SD to MAF?
Also he has a real nice 86 bronco, (never driven in the snow) with a 302 but its SD, sucks gas like its going out of style, always has.
Whould it get better fuel milage with it if I put the MAF system on it? Enough to justtify the time spent, he'd never do any mods for performace of any kind. Putting it on that just a waste of the parts?
I'm thinking keeping it for use on my 94 5.8 but haven't decided yet.
If I ask him or just show intrest he'll probably just give me the car if the trannys shot.
Edit; Maybe not quite 18 years but dang close, he has had it for a very long time. I was with him when he bought it at the dealer. 17 years? Well anyway its top notch parts I know that. LOL
Thanks, Dan
Are the parts worth more as MAF or the same as any other parts of their age/type?
Used computer 50-55 bucks.
Complete under hood wiring harness 35-45 bucks
302 motor 400 bucks.
Or are the parts worth more, the maf parts, sought after? and worth keeping around?
Ball park figure?
Not really worth nothing? no gain in fuel millage for his Bronco over the SD system if installed? Won't work on a 5.8 so just let it all go to the scrap heap without pulling any of it first?
I am not trying to sell the parts here, that is not the reason I asked. Not trying to get a "sales pitch" in under the radar.
Just though asking here would save me a bunch of searching ended auctions and phone calls to junk yards.......
Hope that helps with what you were asking about, your posts seemed a bit confusing to me, haha. If you end up with the MAF system and wiring and want to lose it quickly, PM me and maybe we can work something out.
Tom
It's doable though... but unless you're planning on modifications, it's probably not worth it.
I'd be more apt to use the system on his 302 bronco but if the gains just ain't there to heck with it.
I went and got the car today, going to pull the motor, to good to just trash plus a few select parts and scrap the rest. I have a couple engine stands and space with nothing to do.
I'm just going to store it for now and see what happens, never know down the road I may build a motor that would need it but for now a good running stock system is fine with me. I've long ago out grown the motor head need for wheel spinning speed.
Not that there's anything wrong with that!!
Thanks again guys.
Nope! but nice try! lol
No I'll be storing all that with the motor, computer and complete under hood wire harness. Along with a few other select parts from it.
I will make a decision on its final use in the near future, depending on how much of a bind you're in that may not be soon enough to help you I'm sorry to say.
Keep an eye out if you'd like though. If I do decide to sell it off, the MAF stuff, I will post it in the classified section here.
I will try and decide before the snow fly's but will likely be more like spring. Not much help huh?
I really thought I'd get more input on the subject from this group. Pro's and con's if any, "common as dirt" or "rare" or just a "getting harder to find" as in all used up.
And if its the exact same setup the 5L mustangs use, computer and intake system perhaps but with different heads?
I know it gets near or twice the fuel mileage his bronco does, same size motor only obvious difference I see in the two is SD verses MAF systems on them. Car always got 20-23Mpg min. and the bronco gets 7 or 8, maybe on a good day 10mpg running down hill with a good tail wind.
Natrually the town car doesn't hit the head wind like the bronco does up in the air but nothing done improves its mileage one bit. It's a tight, low milage motor and has sat most of its life. He doesn't drive it as much as he'd like to because of that fact.
He has a 06 navagator and a 08 chevy but would still like to drive the bronco (In the summer) if it got better fuel milage. Its a eddie brower version fully loaded.
But that's fine, I take what I can get.
