Truck had sat for 5 yrs and ran when it was parked. Changed oil, fuel filter and some fresh diesel. Fuel comes out of the supply side of the fuel filter but does not come out of the supply side of the injection pump that each line is hooked up to. Is this going to be a bad pump or could something else be the problem? It sounds like air or something come out the side of the pump when you crank the truck.
First, how long have you cranked on it. These Injection pumps can be tricky to clear of air. If you know you have diesel getting to the pump, I would crank on it on and off for a while. 20 seconds cranking and 2 minuit wait. I would make sure both batteries are fully charged and Its easier to have another vehicle hooked up to yours with good jumper cables (I Use the $5 walmart cables but the good ones work much better). That way you can keep your voltage up. Try this a few times and see what happens. When I first got mine, All my cranking time when I ran out of fuel probably added up to 1 1/2 -2 minuts. i took It easy though so I wouldn't burn up the starter.
This is just where I would start. It sounds like you need to get the air purged out of the pump and lines. Another way is to crack each line at the injectors and crank on it till fuel starts comming out of them, then tighten them back down.
It will also help if your glowplug system works well.
Good Luck
I have an 85 F250 6.9. Mine would not start right after I got it. I was told to crack injector lines and try to start it until it starts or you see fuel.
I see that you are an Aggie. If you are in or near College Station, I can come and do what Ford Mega Cab said.
thanks for the advise. i did what you said and i finally got it running. smoked for the first 20 mins but drove it around town and now its running good.
