Trans swap questions....

Hey all!
Sorry if any of this has been asked before, tried searching out my answers first but kind of came up empty handed. I have an 89 Fullsize Bronco that was equipped with an AOD tranny and a BW1356 transfer case and was running a 302. The tranny ate itself up and I want to swap in a C6/NP208 combo I have from an 83 Bronco I used to own (I have all the mounts and driveshafts from the 83, so that should simplify most of the swap).

My questions are these:
1. Will the speedo cable originally used for the AOD still work with the C6?

2. I know the AOD used the TV to control shift, and the C6 uses a vacuum source...what is the preferable vacuum port to conect to? (I know I could find that out in a manual, just don't have mine back yet...buddy borrowed it).

3. How about the shift linkage (both trucks were column mounted shifters)? I know the AOD was a 4 speed overdrive, and the C6 is a three speed...but does the linkage need to be swapped out as well (it looked the same on the 83 as it does the 89, but the 83 ended up getting damaged thanks to a friend helping who was a bit overzealous with the sawzall )...I'm seriously thinking of using a Lokar shifter, but if I can recycle stock parts for now, that would be just fine.

4. Kickdown cable...does anyone know what the Ford part number is for this? It's going on a 302, so I don't know if Ford ever had the 302 backed with the C6 in 89...if so, does anyone know the part numbers....or better yet have one they might want to sell? Again I know I could go with Lokar, but factory parts are good for now.

Thanks all for any and all help you can provide!
Mike

well, I can answer the vaccum question. just connect it to the vaccum tree located on the intake manifold - normally to the rear... by 89, ford had quit using the C6 trans (big mistake I think) the AOD is a piece of crap. tore up three of them in my 88 t-bird. You will most likely have to make something for the kickdown I think. Your shift linkage should work. Most likely, the shifter will not go to the "1" possition most likely.

ok, I may have been wrong on when Ford discontinued the C6. Best transmission that they have ever made in my mind... You can beat the crap out of them, and they keep taking it... but you do need a trans cooler, if you are doing much pulling. the stock one in the radiator isn't enough.

Since the speedo cable in your 83 is located in the transfer case, it should be the same as for the 89 t-case. Might need to change the actual gear to calibrate the speedometer with your tire size. The C6 on EFi 5.0L V8's used a kickdown cable, with a bracket mounted to the throttle body. Wish I still had mine from the 88 Bronco to get a part number but i sold it. You likely can't get that from Ford anymore and will need to llok for a salvage yard or someone parting out a 87-89 with the C6. You may be able to use part of your linkage for the AOD, just bolt up to the piece coming off of the C6. IF you don't have any of that, more parts hunting. JSM84
