2001 F 250 7.3 has ran great all summer, ( we got it in June ). A few days ago it would not start. Our neighbor, pretty good mechanic brought over his diagnosic equipment and said the computer module was bad. Today he put on a rebuilt one, and the truck is running, but when you start it, it cranks fast for probably 5 or 6 seconds. Before it would turn over 2 or 3 times and be running. What is causing this? I hate to think of cold weather coming if it starts like this now.
I would say go back to your very first post, when you got this truck.
It sounds like your hpop is leaking down, or what color cps sensor did the put in it?
Can you find out what code your neighbor pulled? If your truck is throwing a ROM error code, changing the CPS the first time shouldn't have had any affect on it. If it threw it again and you changed out the PCM and that didn't fix it, you'll need to make sure it's the right computer for your truck, then start looking for other possibilities as to what the problem is. P0603, P0605, & P0606 are the codes that I would expect to see with your issues. 0604 isn't even listed in the manual that I can find.
One battery was putting out 7 volts, the other 12, we installed 2 new ones and it started right off, although before it was cranking like crazy. Does that make sense?
Thanks for the input.
Like Randy said, the batteries were your problem, or at least part of it. You must have at least 10.5 volts to power the computer. and fire the IDM. Anything less, you just spinning the motor and nothing is going to fire. Glad you got it fixed.
