Radio Harness Difference
I purchased a stock am/fm/cassette/CD to replace my stock am/fm. The power plug is the same but not the speaker plug. In fact, the CD unit has three smaller plugs. Both units are for a 1995. My other truck that has am/fm/cassette has the same plugs as just the am/fm. My Ford service manuals dont have schematics for any radios that I can find. The am/fm/cassette plug has 8 wires and I assume that covers the four speakers. Anybody have any schematics AND/OR speaker plugs for a CD unit?

The best way to do an aftermarket radio with a stock amp is to bypass the whole amp. Crutchfield has a nice harness that will plug into the output plug of the stock amp to go out directly to the speakers. Of course now i can't find the harness. I used one on my old truck to run from my amps behind the seat back up front so I didn't have cut the factory wiring. The whole harness was $30 or so but it was 8 wires about 20 foot long so you could use it in the rear of vehicle for amps then run it up front to the plug under the dash at the stock amp.

Ron, you might try going to a Walmart and picking up a wiring harness adapter that is used to adapt an aftermarket stereo to the stock wiring. The adapter I have has 2 separate harnesses (one power and such and one for speakers) and both harnesses have two different plugs on them... maybe you could use the other plug on the aftermarket adapter to tie things together?

I've never dealt with a truck with premium sound before. Ron if you have photobucket or webshots you can post the photo real easy, if not let me know and I'll shoot you my email addy. Tim's advice is probably more sound than mine though!
