While rotating my tires yesterday I noticed the left front shock is leaking, so I guess it's time for a full replacement (just went over 50,000 miles). Any suggestions? Stock or upgrade? My wife and I use the Explorer as a daily driver with weekly pulls (3600#) to the local boat launch ramp 6 miles away.
Monroe Sensatracs and Reflex are good shocks for the value. I'm partial to Bilstein's myself. They are a little more pricey, but well worth the money to me. I've had all and the Bilstein's have done the best for me.
I don't know if there is a set for the 04's or not, but if you need a little help in the rear for pulling and do not want to go the bag route, you might look and see if Gabriel has the air shocks also. I have ran those before when my Explorer was towing and they did a great job. I put the air nipple at the tailgate (hidden) and could adjust the air pressure depending on what I was pulling. I've since changed to Bilstein's in the rear since I do not tow with the Explorer anymore, but the Gabriel's were good.
