Let’s say you weren’t going to be around for an extended period of time to drive your 6.0L Diesel (ie.. Military members going overseas). Would you have someone fire it up every-so-often? (If so how often?). Would you have someone also drive it around? (If so how often, and how far (in miles)?

Reason: Removed extra smilie and formating marks
I would. I would let someone that I trust ALOT like a brother or father or something you know you can trust. tell them to take it out every week or two and drive it like they stole it. Aslo be sure to keep some diesel kleen in it. Run the A/c evedry now and then and lock the hubs and drive it now and then too.
I agree with 06.... From all I've read and "learned" from this site (as well as my own 04) these things don't like to be neglected. If you are going into active combat, my prayers are with you and yours. Thanks for serving.

Thanks for the kind thoughts, but I am not going into combat (been there, done that) [Viet Nam]. USN/USNR-R, Retired, 21 years of service! My heart and prayers also go out to all our men and women in the armed forces.
I just posed the question, since I don't want to wear it out befor I put it to work towing an RV.
i bought my 04 just before going to combat. it sucked as it sat (for the most part) for 18 more months after i got it. my pop put a couple thousand on it, but not much. it ate a turbo immediately after i got home and a few other common problems, esp if they've sat too long.
last mechanic that drove it got in, floored the snot out of it (and pissed me off in the process), but when it started blowing massive black soot he said "you must baby it all the time". pretty much, was my reply. he says "no, no - get on it every now and then, at least to blow it out". so i still baby the thing (diesel's still too expensive to waste lots of it), but it gets GOOD and blown out from time to time.
