Originally posted by gamehunter The reason why more and more trucks use pushbutton 4x4 is because these trucks are now being used as grocery machines. Its a proven fact that most trucks NEVER in their entire life use 4x4. And if they do, it is usually because Old Fart didn't want his tires to slip comming out of the boat ramp, or the roads were a little icy. What a waste it would be to put manual hubs and manual transfer case on for these kind of people.
I wouldn't go that far. You haven't seen what the ESOF can do have you?
I have. And it's not just for lazy "Old Farts".
As a matter of fact I said the same thing before I was convinced to try it.
Of course there's good and bad in everything....I can't complain.

are you saying a properly trained teenager cannot tear these up....i beg the differ:P
and the last time i checked, pullin down and to the left as far as the short stick goes is not that difficult...maybe even a TEENAGER, or a WOMAN could do it. guess all im saying with this one is grow up, and realize the not only crusty, old, retired, old farts know how to use 4wd, and/or 4wheel.
as for manual vs atuo. as long as you dont ruin my day broke in front of me, with either one, because both of them do break, and my guess is that they break just as often too. i dont care what you run....ummm, i have manual everything though...i just bring a buddy along to lock and unlock the hubs
hahaha....hey, watch yourself.....im not your average 18yo.....didnt say anything about being above average either....hmmmm...nah, im just playing. i think wheeling has got to be one of the best hobbies for a teenage these days. its fun, not illegal, you learn a lot about mechanics, meet lost of new people, eveyone is nice....unless you go to pirate4x4....im glad i got into it....my budget isnt so glad though....400$ a year on mods and upgrades.....talk about cutting edges....
all i know is u can usually macgiver somethin together in the woods to get u home when its manual...and gettin home is whats important....not convinience
I plow with a 1987 Ford F250 4x4 and a 1979 Bronco and both have manual transfer cases and manual hubs. There is no way I would want to be stuck in the middle of a snowstorm at 2am not being able to go into 4 wheel drive. Manual all the way!
wow, this thread originated almost 2 years ago. so far i like my electric shift/auto hub combo. i bought it used. if i had ordered it i would have gone with manual case/hubs. funny thing is about mine, it has every factory option for '93 except for l/s diff but has the 5-spd. and was sold new in colorado. you think it would come std with a l/s in that state. as long as the 4wd system works who cares how they do it. when any of them dont work they are worth just as much.........nothing.
