sorry to hear you had to endur that mess.
that guy was and idiot in the worst way. He needs to go back to picking up cans on the side of the Hwy.
I met a lawyer and he teaches at the university. Buss law etc.. He says that when the officer pulls you over "its their world for the time being." just be polite, don't ever blow in the monitor if you have had anything to drink. why give the judge the evidence to hang you with? And if the guy is a jerk you just be polite and then let your lawyer rip him to shreds on the stand.

It is a shame the good cops get the bad rap because of crap like this. I have lots of friends in law enforcement and they don't pull this kind of crap. However, if you are rude and threating to them they will push back its in the job discription..!

Well thanks for the support everyone. I was definitely in "HIS WORLD" - the thought of driving home and letting 10 police cars follow while i got into my bed crossed my mind a many times! I called a couple other officers down there for some help clarifying the paperwork and redtape BS - they where very helpful and informative. they couldn't believe that a guy in a pickup truck got that many infractions for doing what i was doing. I understand there are a ton of cops that are only out for a good cause, i have met many! but the few like this tarnish the the whole patrol system. Its too bad.

I've met this duffus, and his clones, many times in the 2+ million miles over-the-road I have driven. Weigh stations are a crap-shoot and many times you draw an idiot like this...This is life behind the wheel when a person is trying to make a living driving.

ON EDIT: I thought I'd give an example of life in the fast lane...I had just driven across Wyoming in a blizzard, heading east...I had a load of strawberries on the truck. I hit the scales at North Platte, NB at 3AM in a blizzard...the dreaded scales are open, but at least I know I am legal on my axles and GVW (80K lbs). As I roll off the scales, the red light comes on and I pull behind the scale house and walk in. Now the temperature is roughly 0 degrees F. and the wind is howling at about 40 mph...the reefer unit is acting as a heater to prevent the strawberries from freezing!

Anyway, I go inside the scale house and this young azz***e trooper tells me I am 800 lbs over on my gross weight. I point out to him that I must have at least 1000 lbs of ice attached to the landing gear (they look like elephant legs, completely covered in at least a foot of ice) and can't he see his way to giving me some tolerance around the overweight issue? The answer is NO!!! You cannot leave this scale being overweight! I have to go out and beat the undercarriage and landing gear of my truck with my tire-buddy for about an hour (I would beat on it for 5 minutes, climb back in the truck and warm up for 10 minutes, and start beating on it again). I then have to drive the truck back over the scale and guess what...200 lbs overweight. Pull back around and spend another hour beating on my truck until mercifully, the next time I drive over the scales, I am about 50 lbs under the GVW limit. This time I get frostbitten in my toes, which I suffer from to this day. I would say withing 10 minutes driving down the road, I was overweight once again.

I have to agree with Barry here. If his CO apologized to you then I would fight the ticket. I don't know if it is the same in all states, but in Mass. you have the right to appeal any ticket given to you. I have done this a few times and won. One of the cases was I got pulled over in a speed trap. This is where 1 cop sits there with a radar gun and radios ahead to a bunch of others further up the road. I fought this one based on hearsay. I said that the one that clocked me did'nt give me the ticket so how do I know that there wasn't another Black Trans Am or a color or vechicle close to it passing by at the same time. It was thrown out. The other one is a long story involving the RMV. The cop was pizzed big time!!

Fight it if you can Joe, because if not the same chit will happen to someone else again!!

Wow thats a great story - it doesnt shock me one bit unfortunitly. With things like the "Patriot Act" Many Americans are left powerless to public officials and law enforcement. Its funny how he probably though he was doing the world a service, probably went home and told his wife he saved a road by busting your ballz!

I probably should have mentioned that this was in 1980...He was just being ornery because he was doing the graveyard shift at the North Platte scales in a blizzard...might as well had duty at Point McMurdo, Antarctica !

I'd fight the tickets he gave you. Make him go to court and hear you tell the judge the story. I know of a few cases where the judge has told the defendant he was free to go but told the officer to stay behind for a little discussion on the laws and how they are to be enforced...

Agreed.. Fight the tickets in court. See what the judge has to say.

Yep, I'd be in court and make that @ss explain those tickets. I have the utmost respect for police and firefighters (my Dad is one) but man, what an @ss clown.

By comparison, I got pulled over Labor Day weekend by a Texas State Trooper. No license plate on the jet ski trailer. The officer had me get out of the truck, produce my DL and proof of insurance, walked around my truck and commented on how good it looked and then he ran my info. He also ran the VIN on the trailer. Said "everything looks good, just wanted to make sure that it wasn't stolen. Go ahead and have a good time at the lake and please, get a plate on there". Yes sir. At no time did he talk down to me or act like a jerk. I apologized for the plate, told him to be safe out there and thanked him for the break.
