Manual Transfer case dash indicator light issue...
I have a manual transfer case in my 2001 F350 diesel w/ auto trans. When I go into 4 wheel drive-LOW GEAR, more often than not the indicator will not come on. The one for regular 4 wheel drive will come on, but not the one for LOW. Where is the switch at to clean/adjust/replace?? On or in the t-case??
Thanks, Aaron.
Even back to 2001 didn't the lights have LCD's as compared to bulbs. I had a 2001 Excursion, and to this day, I wish I had that vehicle with the V-10, EXCEPT that it was 4 x 2. WITH that said. I was in PA the first winter I had that Excursion, put 4 -- 80 # bags of sacrete in the back and it was awesome. I have photographs of where we went, but Christmas of 2001 produced about 18" of snow around Seven Springs, PA and I chickened out and stayed at our rental, at that time.
Thanks for replying. I was kinda thinking it is a switch just because it doesnt do it all the time. Only once in a while. Possibly bad contacts inside the switch??? or possibly bad wiring connection? What are the odds the dash light is failing?
Aaron
I'll bet it's the switch. From the EVTM I have for 2001, here's the wire colors on the switch connector:
LB is the HIGH indicator.
LB/BK is the LOW indicator.
LB is Light Blue - LB/BK is Light Blue with a Black tracer.
If you ground each one, it should light the appropriate light in the dash.
In other words, pull the connector to the switch on the transfer case, find the appropriate color wire, and ground it to the chassis - the light should come on.
If it doesn't, it's wiring or light - and we'll work more on that with you.
