Finally changed the fuel filter on the truck, It was serviced before I bought it although not sure if the filter was changed. Man mine was terrible the filter element was a dark brown color and the outside mesh type stuff had allot of crud on it followed the Guzzle procedure on cleaning out the bowl, it also had allot of particles in it looked like maybe a little rust in the bowl itself, is there a safe way to get this stuff out and not run it through the engine. I cleaned and flushed for 15-20 min. think I may change it again after a few miles I couldn't get all the stuff out then the drain line leaked some cycled the drain lever a couple of times and it has quit. I will be getting the O rings to replace them on the next filter change. On a side note how often should one change this filter. I don't drive mine everyday it's mainly to pull my enclosed trailer/race car.
How often you change the filter depends on how clean or dirty the fuel in the tank is. I change mine every 15k miles. You can try to gently wipe away any debris in the bowl and flush again, just be careful of the little wire (fuel bowl heater) that's down in there. If you break that it will blow a fuse and your truck won't start.
I made up one of these for my small shop vac. and it works like suction in the dentist office. And i used a little paint brush with some diesel fuel. Brush, Brush, Little diesel, brush brush. Suck, Suck, Diesel , brush.. Suck.. It even had the high pitch sqeal like the dentist office. Looks as clean as a button when finished.
