Hi I just got a 68 ranger F-250, Ranger, camper special.
I would like to know how hard it would be to replace the front drum
brakes with disk. (I hate drum brakes) i lost em once comming down a
10 mile 12% grade. so drums gotta go. Thanks in advance for your
input.
Should be a direct fit swap in just like the 100s by using parts from up to 79. My advise is the same buy a donor and harvest all of your parts then sell the rest after the job is complete.
i have a 67 f100 and i also wanted to change my drums out and i found out a cheap way to do so ........... first thing is you have to have a twin I beam front end and if you do you have to find a doner truck that matches your size : 1/2 ton.....will fit a 1/2 ton ect...you have to take the spindles, master cylinder, power brake booster, pedal assembly, calipers, and brake hoses..... but theres a catch..... i believe it was in 1975 that ford changed the spindle design so in your case you'd need to find ahalf ton 1975 or older ......but if you have a 4x4 i've never heard of the conversion being done on them
Sure, no problem. But thats crazy, Sheesh, We all enjoy the same hobby here. I've had enough. Please unregister (is that a word?)me from this site. Adios

Is yours a 2 or 4wd? I have a 4wd, and have been considering the same thing.

I tried to help. The link I posted was to an article with step by step instructions with pictures that thoroughly explains this simple conversion with readily available junkyard parts. Moderator filtered it out. This is a common conversion, I'm sure lots of guys on here have done it. And here you are, what? 12 hrs later, without the information you asked for. You're waisting your time here Buddy. There's not a part on a "bumpside" that I have'nt torn-down, rebuilt or replaced. The only reason I registered on this site was to ask a question about a misaligned clutch linkage on a 240-I6. (My first Ford 6cyl.)To this day, no replies whatsoever. I rigged it and made it work, but it ain't right. Am I the only one who sees a problem here? No, I'm just the only one who will speak up. Call me a troublemaker, I don't care, all I've tried to do here is help people out.
I was a new user not that long ago,but i also realize that many people have other priorities far more important than just answering questions! im also a slow typist, maybe others here are too,so it may take someone a while to get back to you. Did it occur to you that maybe no one here currently online had done this swap,or if they had, they were gathering info before they posted an answer. When i ask a question here,i get answers, sometimes quickly, sometimes less quickly! 12 hours isnt a long time, and people did respond with suggestions. If its true that theres"not a part on a bumpside that i havent torn down, rebuilt or replaced" i should think you wouldnt need any advice? You state that you only reg'd here to ask a question, but you also say that all youve ever tryed to do is help people out, which is it? This site and its members charge nothing for there services, they have a few rules(most businesses have rules, too)and most people seem satisfied with things as they are.....If you are indeed, the worlds foremost authority on bumpsides, start your own site, provide world class quick and detailed answers, and you should have a popular site! Otherwise, stop being a martyr, your delusions of grandeur are tiring!
Pardon my Rant,68Ranger! Try the search function, Disk brake conversion or similar. you will likely get some info,it seems to me that Ford started putting disks into trucks in either 68 or 69 models with 390 engines. I had a 69F350 with the front disks, and yes it stopped better than 4 wheel drums! Wait for a guy named NumberDummy to weigh in to this thread,he can probably give you exact info regarding when/what models went to disks. Dont get discouraged by a few complainers on this site(they are in the minority), be patient, and i would wager you will get some helpful suggestions. Would you rather have the wrong answer in 10 minutes or the right one in 2 days?

What a friggen ridiculous statement! You have to consider, that not all ppl are here everyday for whatever reason. You just can't push a button and have someone just pop up and answer every question. You're waisting (wasting) your time here Buddy. There's not a part on a "bumpside" that I have'nt (haven't) torn-down, rebuilt or replaced. Uh huh, read my response below. Since you seem to know all, why didn't you just tell the OP that 1968 was the first year that F250 2WD's and F350's offered disc brakes as an option?
All the OP needs to do is find one of those 1968/72's and swap everything over. It's a piece of cake since everything just bolts right on without modifying anything.
I'm prolly the most opinionated, miserable old SOB on any Ford truck site, and since I'm that-away....get a &*^& grip!
