Traction Lock Question
I have a 2002 Sport Trac 4wd. I ran the truck on a hoist in 2WD. Is this a good way to check for a noise and a vibration or will the rear end not behave normally? At 55 mph, the truck gets a vibration throughout (especially noticeable in the steering wheel and seats) and a noise (rumbling/moan type) appears at the same time. The exact same symptoms apppear when driven on the road. Any ideas? Thanks.

if it still vibrates, then i guess its a good test. many bearing problmes will not show up with the tires not loaded on teh ground. apparently you have a balance problem like tires or drive shaft. also running a 4 x 4 on a lift, need to be careful. i dont know about your sport, but the auto 4 x 4 EXP we have will spin the front tires even in 2 x 4 if the see a difference is speed between the front and back tires (computer thinks you are spinning like on ice).

I had trouble with tires out of round and replaced those. The new ones have been checked out okay. I guess I am wondering if the tracion lok rear differential will act differently than one that doesn't have it. The rumble seems to be coming from the rear differential. Could it be bearings? Clutch pack? Not sure. Thanks.
