Steering question
Whenever my truck needs work, there's a battle between tightwad 'bama (fix it myself) and lazy 'bama (take it to the shop) Tightwad has an incredible victory margin over lazy, but occasionally lazy wins.
Saturday, I noticed I had two bad ball joints (passenger upper, driver's lower). I used to be a certified suspension tech, and decided that this was a rare case where I let lazy win. So, I took it to the shop, and told them to replace all four. In addition, they found a cracked radius arm bracket, which would normally be an easy win for tightwad, but since it would be difficult to get a decent alignment without it, I had them go ahead and do it all.
When I got it back, I had a bizarre problem. It felt like a bind in the steering. If the truck had been a 73-79, I woudl instantly have suspected bad cab mounts. It felt like that. I pulled into a parking lot to take a quick look before turning around and heading back. The only thing off kilter that I noticed was that the power steering cap wasn't on correctly. One of the tabs that hold it down had missed it's proper slot, and the cap didn't have a good seal. I checked the fluid, which was still at a good level, and turned it lock to lock 3-4 times to burp it. I pulled out of the lot, and it did it one more time, and didn't do it again in a half hour of driving. I stayed on surface streets for safety, and to give it more opportunity to come back. It never did.
Could an improper PS reservoir seal/air in the PS cause this. It makes sense to me, but I was wanting more opinions. No, let's be honest, I'm wanting more reassurance, LOL.
