what does the exhaust air check valve supposed to do? the one one my 89 f250 with a 5.8 has been welded looks like the threads had broken loose from the body of the valve also should i only be able to blow air through one direction? if so mine is bad i can blow through both directions
Part of the air pump emissions system. Allows the pump to pump air into the exhaust, but does not allow exhaust to blow back. It is a one-way valve, and it should allow air in, but not out, of the exhaust.
If your truck is running ok as is and you don't have emissions inspections, I wouldn't worry about it.
If you need to repair it for smog, post that & you'll get some info.
no emissions inspections here i just noticed that it was welded up but was leaking got one coming tomorrow ten bucks this ole truck been throwing a hobo fit for years, black smoking loss of power real bad gas milage its an extra truck i have its not even tagged. i get a wild hair to piddle with it every now and then
i went through this,i did a few things so not sure what fixed it.pull your o2 an wire brush it to clean it,use anti-seize when you reinstall,i hollowed out my cat.,an gave it a tune up.i also replaced the coolant sensor, but that did'nt help any.also what i found was i would shift in rev. or drive an the engine would die, found myself two footing to keep it going, pulled my o2 cleaned it the problem went away.hope this helps you ,start with the little things first.
