2005 and Newer F-150 Starters
Well my 2006 Ford Screw lost its starter at 37K miles. This is a Lariat with everything and up till today no problems. In fact this is my 4th Ford Lariat since 1996 and the first to have a problem. It was not covered under warranty and set me back 400 bucks. I am curious, has anyone had problems with their F-150 starters on this series of trucks? Thanks

wait a minute....shouldn't that be covered under the powertrain 5 year 50k warranty......I'd call ford.... Even if it wasn't, i'd still call ford.... my buddy just got gm to replace the bcm on his malibu 20k miles out of warranty.....you should be able to get a starter at 1k out....
But really...that should be a 5/50 warranty issue

I can understand it being out of warranty, because truck is over three years old. Also in some cases, mileage doesnt truly reflect a starters usage.i have a customer that had replaced the one on his Yo,three times when the vehicle has just under 60,000 miles.his line of work makes him start his vehilce around 30-35 times a day.
The thing I dont understand is the Four hundred Dollars.I Rebuild them for $89.95.and most of the Auto parts around here sell them retail for $139.95--$179.95.
Even with hourly shop rates like they are know I cannot imagine over one hour labor for the installation.

I agree, this should be a warranty item (if still under warranty)...also, what did they charge you? I would expect $200.00 to $250.00 tops (1 hr labor, $100-150 for the part)

Yep, Ford for what ever reason did not start the 5yr/60k warranty until the middle of July 06. Everyone that bought before that got the 3yr/36k while everyone after got the 5yr/60k warranty with a $100.00 deductible after the first 3yr/36k. Then starting on the 07's they went away with the $100.00 deductible.
I was lucky as I bought mine in August 06 and got the 5yr/60k powertrain warranty

Well I think 400.00 is a joke for a rebuilt starter. The ford list price is only 186.00 + 40.00core. The starter is only about 150.00 retail at a store and can be installed in under 10 mins. These starters only have 3 bolts and 2 electrical connections.

bought 10/2006
3yr/36k warranty and nothing else...is there anything online where I can check my warranty? I specifically asked the repair department back in Spring 2007 and they said I only had the 3/36 and nothing else
I bought the premium ESP just in case
