Hey There I have a 96' F350 7.3 that seems to lack turbo boost under 2k rpm's. I just noticed it today when I went to take off from a job with my bobcat excavator behind it. The more I drove it I really noticd that it didnt seem to wistle or accelerate the way I think it should and definatly not the way my 00' pickup does witch I know are two different animales but never the less. The truck seems to have good power, no smoke and runs very smooth but when I take off with it loaded or lean into it on a hill it just doesent have that spunky get up and get. The truck is a 96' F350 DRW PSD Auto with almost 132,000 Mi on it. Any help anybody could provide would be appreciated including (if you think it is smoked) where to get a new or rebuilt turbo for resonable $$.
It may be worth checking out your map sensor hose to see if it is plugged or cracked I have read a few posts here about this same problem maybe they will chime in here.
If the truck is 100% stock, it's never gonna just jump up and go loaded or unloaded. It will pull forever, just not fast. If it is stock, there are sooooo many things we can help you with to get it going better.
Tymar Intake
3" down pipe off the turbo
Some type of programming (DP-Tuner or Tony Wildman are best, but others to be had.)
10K mod
Various tranny mods from mild to wild
Injectors (biggest power gain)
Shimming the fuel pressure regulator
The list goes on, how fast you want to go depends on your wallet. We'll be here to help ya spend it in the right places to do what you want.
Thanks for the input guys I appreciate it. I did a few of the tests I found in the forum that waljon directed me to and it seems the map sensor is working fine I will pull the sensor hose out anouther day and mke sure it is not cloging up.
I had anouther event take place today I had the trannyslip really bad going down the road. I had the truck empty going to get smestone and the person in front of me stoped to turn so i slowed then went to accelerat and the truck just reved up to 3ka few times so finaly I had to put in neutral and back into drive. It went into gear but then it slamed from one gear to the next I checkd trans fluid it was fine then it shifted at a lower rpm than it should. It drove ok with stone on but when you take of the truck shifts from first to second relly quickly and takes alot to get moving. I should probley start a diferant thread about this but i figure since this one is alredy started.
Im sure the tranny will need work even though it seems to be ok now any help would be appreciated
Thanks again Rob
Ps you can tell Im not teribly firmilier with these things thats why Im asking, you all are a wealth of knowlage so thanks alot for the help
the boost below 2k is perfectly normal. the larger turbo housing our trucks are equipped with dont allow boost to be built at low rpm's very easily. even with mods it take a good bit to get the needle moving at low rpm. my truck doesnt really move the needle until over 2k. the most i thinki see is 1-2 psi.

Thanks Alot do you think the solonoid needs replacing? I notice my 00' pickup shifting quickly from first to second when pulling also.
