The 239 in my C600 developed frost on the back of the intake after running for a little while, we suspect a stuck valve (and for other reasoning). I am going to need an intake gasket after we pull it apart, so I was wondering if anybody has a part number? I will keep you all updated on the progress. Thanks.
On the VIN plate the engine is said to make 113.5 HP@3600 RPM, so is it really a 239? There must be a number stamped on the beast, just in case I am dealing with the wrong engine size.
Look for the casting numbers (actual three letters) on the engine block - I would be surprised to learn that it is a 239. It is more likley a 256 ci engine if it is the original from 1955. But, 53 years later it could be any number of engines...
well, today we found out why she skips. When I rebuilt the Carburetor I put the new economy valve thing in it, which was not made for my carburetor, so the gas in the bowl would drain into the intake. The overload of gasoline flooded the engine and made it stall. Some of the plugs were saturated, which would explain the skip. Sure I need to change the oil again, but that is all part of the process. Some anti-freeze was sitting on the driver side head, suggesting a crack. The engine has good compression and 4 different types of spark plugs in it . I am getting 8 Autolite 124's tonight, but I would like to know the correct gap I will need for the plugs if possible, thanks.
Well, in the end some things just don't matter. after running her the other day I looked inside the oil filler tube and found this creamy yellow stuff lining the tube. I looked on the dipstick today and found a very small ammount on that, cracked block? I hope not, but if so I will be dropping a 292 in it.
Well, the truck is sitting. The SAE 30 is really hard on the engine in winter! I need to take the intake off, but I am unable to find an intake gasket part number. I believe it was the EBV version.
All of my 239s have had a history on condensation... living the Pac Northwest, the yellow foamy stuff is common in these early y-blocks during the winter months.
Best way to determine your engine size is via the casting # - For 54 and 55, the 239 is a EBU, the 256 is a EBZ, the 279 is a EAL, and the 317 is a EAM.
I double checked, mine is an EBV. I found the intake gaskets at Autozone and Napa, that will be the next thing I do when things warm up. I took apart the two speed rear end box last night, and I found that the motor works. I am going to guess the wiring is rotten or the switch is junk.
