Two week's ago I posed a question to the member's. I attempted to locate it, without any luck. Oh Well
The question was about locating a leakage problem in a C6 transmission.
I tried everything I could think of without luck.
The last time I pulled it out I noticed that the pump bolt's weren't seated. I thought that I had forgotten to torque them. NOPE.
I discovered that the bolt's were bottoming out in the case before the pump was seated. I have never came up on this before and wanted to let the member's know of my discovery.
This transmission came from a running driving truck!!!
I really don't see how they could be the wrong one's. They were the one's that were in the transmission when I tore it down. The pump is the only plase in a C6 that use's that lenghth of 5/16 bolt.
Well then, ya got me scratchin' the noggin. Unless somehow they had washers that extended the heads of the bolts out far enough for them to seat the pump, and still have enough room for correct torque?
**shrugs** Not sure? I've never encountered this type of issue with a teardown/rebuild.
I didn't want to chance having to pull it out yet again, so I went to the hardware store and bought long threaded grade 8 bolt's. I cut the head's off, chased the thread's, screwed them into the case, reinstalled the pump, and torqued the hardened nut's to spec's. The next morning I torqued them again to make sure and put the darn transmission back in. Work's great.
But DAMN what a headache it was getting there.
