fuel selector for front tank...
my front tank doesn't work,I think I have a Shuttle selector?
chiltons is kinda vague is there any info on troubleshooting these problems
or could it be a fuelpump?
would a scan tell me?
Thanks
In mid/late 89 ford switched to 2 hi pressure pumps in the tanks and no boost pump/reservoir on the frame rails. Can you peek underneath the cab, just aft of the ABS valve and see if that hardware is there?
It could be the in-tank pump.
I do not think so.
Rear tank selected runs fine, switch to front, guage shows full (and it is) runs about 1 min then quits. Switch back to the rear and it starts.
So is it the selector or the fuel pump, and how difficult are they to change?

The in-tank pump is a lot harder, you have to drop the tank or take the bed off then it is a mater of getting the pump ring off and back on, this is the part I do not like.
You need to find out first what the problem is. Is it electrical, the pump in the tank or is it the selector valve.
First I would have someone turn on the key while you lessen at the tank.
The pump should run for one second. If it does this then take the pressure hose off coming from the tank at the selector valve. Repeat this operation and see if you get fuel from the hose. If you do not hear it run or you get no fuel then it would be the pump in the tank or an electrical problem.
If you get fuel then you will have to find out how much pressure you have, it should be about 5 psi or less. You can put your fuel pressure/vacuum gauge on the end of the line to see what you have.
Never put more than 5-psi air pressure on the selector valve to test it or you can blow the diaphragm. You should hear the selector valve snap from one tank selection to the other when you put the air on the nipples on the valve where you took the pressure hoses off.
If the pump did not run at all then try to re-seat the plug on top of the tank and try it again. If still no go check for power with a test light at the plug for the tank. If the pump wire is hot to the ground pin of the plug then you have a bad pump. You should not use a DVM here as you need to load this circuit.
