tried to change lower ball joints on 2001 f150 2wd and the diameter of the ball joints were to small for the hole, they just slid right in. Tried ford parts, motor craft and an after market part all the same. Any ideas why this could be?
the new motor craft ball joint had the same part number on it as the motor craft ball joint I pressed out, I'm thinhking that maybe they put the wrong lower control arm on when truck was assemblied, is this possible?
Personally i wouldnt buy a new lower control arm... considering it will probably be pretty pricy. You might find a good used set of lower control arms on ebay or craigslist.
If everyones ball joints just slide right in, probably the lower control arm ball joint hole is oversized. Can you use a micrometer on the old ball joint you removed and compare sizing? Is it possible everyone is looking up an incorrect application?Use a micrometer and compare the old and new ball joints and see which is off. Good luck.
