Possible block crack?

So, I have grown tired of seeing all the oil on my garage floor.I went under my truck this afternoon, and looked at the oil pan.I couldn't find any leaks all the way around. So I moved up to the top of the motor.I checked around the filter and sending unit.Nothing.Then I saw. There was a nice big splatch of fresh lookin oil bunching up right on the back of the block on the other side of the tranny.I wiped all the oil off,and found a small discoloration that looks like a crack. So,could the oil be leaking out of there?

It could be a crack, but I'd be willing to bet that your valve covers are leaking and your rear main seal if your truck is an 80.

Mine does the same thing. I've been postponing the rear main seal until I do my ZF swap.

Valve covers or rear intake manifold seal.

Yep it's an 80.BUT,i've got a 300 I6.Sorry I didn't mention that in the early post. The oil is dripping on the driver's side.Another question.I usually go out every three days to start the truck. On some occasions when i just start the truck up,rev it a little at about 2 grand, then shut it off,it barely leaks oil.But other times like this afternoon when I worked the brakes,I run it a little hard and it seems to dump a little less than half a quart. That's why i'm thinking a crack. But could it be doing that from the valve cover?

Yes, a valve cover could definately leak that much.

A quick and inexpensive thing to do it change the cover gasket and see what happens.

If your leak is still there then, you'll have narrowed it down a bit.
