Okay guys here we go...had the leveling kit installed on my v10 4x4 lim last week...a few days later noticed a "knock" when braking...took it to the stealership to have the oil changed and had them take a look to see what was going on. It had a little bump on accel and braking that I wanted them to check as well....so after the oil change, the tech came to me like a doc letting you know you have 6 mos to live....he said...needs ball joints (L side)...u-joints...and a pinion seal replaced. Funny to me that the guy installing the leveling kit noticed none of the above items...
I need input on symptoms of each problem, estimated repair costs, and you thoughts in general....as always...all input is appreciated...thanks
I will pull the estimate out of the glove box in the am and post which one...I know that we really set ourself up by going to the stealership but I just hate that I went for the oil change and now I'm looking at about $900 in repairs...should have known asking "can you tell me where this noise is coming from?"....oh well....I will post back in the am...thanks
First thing that comes to my mind on the issue of "a little bump on accel and braking" is the rear driveshaft's slip joint needing lubed.
Ken,
I have that same thing, a slight bump when I stop and start off again. Should I be looking for a greaseable fitting, or do I just have to push grease in? And the 1 million dollar question, do you have a picture of it?
There is no grease fitting. You have to drop the driveshaft and apply grease. Here's the how-to. Stan's page shows a carrier bearing. We don't have a carrier bearing so don't worry when it doesn't look exactly alike You should get the idea. This is a driveway fix that should take about an hour if you do it methodically and have never done it before.
Block wheels...good, that could have been messy..LOL Considering my garage is the driveway in the picture, just enough pitch towards neighbors house, after it ran my a$$ over...
