Sorry all, just gotta brag - the motor is in!! Still got lot's to do to it, but decided to stick with the oil pan (from a car) that came on it - as Ross has pointed out, less places to leak, plus it hasn't been leaking now, so should be good-to-go. I will have to paint it, but I can do that with it in the truck, when I do some other "touch-up". Anyway, just wanted to show off!
Looks nice!!! What color are looking at painting it? I have a block in my garage that need a rebuild so I can replace the tired on currently in the truck. It makes me want to get in the garage and start working on it! Did you do any work on the tranny?
The paint is Detroit Diesel Alpine green, from Dupli-color. It's VERY close to the original color on the '51's.
I completely went through the tranny, couple new shafts, all new bearings, etc, and replaced the lining on the drum brake - got lucky, a gent had NOS material on eBay. So far, everything has been re-built, re-done, or new. The entire front end has new kingpins, pins and bushings on the leaf springs, new tie rod and ends, new brakes, bearings, and pitman arm. Going to be very nice, when it's done, I think...working on the rear springs now, but just had to get the motor in place.
Here's a website documenting the build, so far - 7 big pages of pictures!
That's going to be a sharp looking truck. I like the way it looks now and it doesn't have the body on it!! BTW, I like your website on the build. I'm hoping to get the motor in my garage rebuilt this winter. How was the rebuild on that one? Were you able to reuse any parts (cam, crank, ect)?
That flattie looks great---my yblock installations are coming along, but no pics...easier to do swap than post pics-haha
the alpine green is sharp....Bill
I'm still looking at a "flathead out", lol. 3 day weekend coming up, not too hot or rain, I hope.
Roger, is that lift plate home made?
Thanks, ALL!!
Yes, Scott, that is home made. One of my first things I made, playing with the new plasma cutter. It goes well with the load leveler, one of the first things I made with my new mig welder (recognize the shaft and bearings? Out of old water pumps!). Couldn't believe how well it worked, put the motor in alone, started at about 12:30, had it in by 1:00...of course, now it has the hooks welded on...

I didn't rebuild this one - I bought it from a gent who had it rebuilt, at a really good price. When I get the truck "done" (are they EVER really done??), I plan to rebuild, and BUILD, my other motor. You know, aluminum heads, cam, duals, etc, etc. Got a good block to start with, and once the truck is done, should have some disposable income to do it with. Then, maybe start looking for something to put it in...
Remind me in a few years, I'll tell you how it went...
