Couple questions - '51 F2, granny tranny mount, and oil pan...

Well, I'm really close to stabbing the engine! However, got a couple queries -

1) I have the stock 4 speed granny (spur) with the drum style parking brake at the rear. I have the bolts and rubber mounts for the rear of the tranny, but when I got it, it just had (the wrong) bolts stuck to hold it. I need to know the order that they go - bolt head up from bottom? Rubber below cross member? Rubber between cross member and tranny mount? Above tranny mount below the nut? Man, can't figure this out! If anyone knows, I'd appreciate it!!

2) I currently have a car oil pan on the motor - it's out of a '51 car. The sump is actually in the middle of the pan, and I want to put the truck pan on, with the clean out - will the oil pump pickup be the same? Also, will the starter plate be the same? I have the original plate (SOMEwhere!!) from the truck motor, as well as the one from the car - if they are the same I won't tear the shop up looking for the truck plate. Should the oil pan be a direct swap, or do I need to "mess" with things?

Hopefully, I'll have the pan changed, the tranny mount figured out, and have the motor in tomorrow, or Friday...getting closer all the time!!

Thanks in advance,

R

Assuming you use the same starter ring/trans adapter, you should be able to use the same starter plate. But are you using an 11" clutch??? or staying with the 10"? I don't even know if it matters, the flywheel is physically the same, just drilled differently.

My understanding is the oil pickup is NOT the same for center-sump pans, but check your parts CD...

Ross - I'm using the original 11" clutch - all new, of course...

So, I should probably dig up the pickup from the truck motor oil pump? Makes sense it might be different, although the parts illustration catalog I have, doesn't show that. And, I still haven't figured my way around the parts number catalog - Bill (ND) has MY respect!!

Thanks, guess I won't be in such a hurry, I'll drop the pan first off, then go from there...

I think I figured out my tranny bolt - the rubber goes on the bottom. I'm assuming there's a washer above the tranny mount, under the nut. Holes too big for just the nut, although the only pic I could find (generic) didn't show a washer. Either way, it's going to work.

Thanks,

R
