my truck has a bad oil leak and loses about a gallon every oil change. it looks like a rear main seal, but after reading a few posts on here today it looks like that may not be the problem. when i bought her there was an oil leak from a plug on the passengers side head. not sure what it is, but it points directly at the turbo. it had sprayed oil all over the turbo pedestal and the surrounding area. the dealer replaced the plug and thought that fixed the oil leak. but its still leaking. i havent degreased the pedestal from the original plug they fixed, but it looks like ill need to do that in order to see if the leak is from the rear main seal or the turbo o-rings.
is there anything in particular i should be looking for? or any other things that need to be checked in that area while im looking around?
Once you get the valley all cleaned up you'll see all sorts of things to check.
BTW: There are many places that will leak in the valley...try to spot all of them.

Once its clean ,,you should be able to see it ,,that is ,,if it is leaking on the motor ,,,could be going out the exaust ...
i havent even checked the valley yet. other than just noticing that the pedestal was covered in oil. i just assumed they fixed the oil leak up top and what was still leaking was the rear main seal. i have to pull the tranny and clutch anyways, so fixing the rear main seal wont be a problem. but i dont like fixing stuff that isnt broken. and its sounding like the seal isnt whats wrong.

its on the engine for sure. its running down the back of the engine and down the bellhousing. the entire underneath of the truck is covered with oil. it leaves a trail everywhere i go.

It sounds like the dealer replaced the o-ring on the high pressure oil rail plug. There are three more o-ringed fittings on the passenger side head, two more plugs and the oil line from the hpop. Same on the drivers side, two plugs, an oil line and the ICP sensor and they all have o-rings. Also three o-ring fittings on the hpop, one on each oil line and a plug on the rear. Check to make sure the fittings are tight or maybe have blown a ring.
Anything that leaks in the valley runs through the drain hole in the back of the valley and looks like a rear main but it's usually not. Even a fuel leak looks like an oil leak by the time it gets to the bottom and picks up all the residual oil on the way.
