Broncoholic,
The dealer is with you on the rear end right now. They said they normally put 2 or 3 bottles of modifier in on higher mileage trucks. I'll have to wait for their complete diagnosis until tomorrow. Meanwhile the loaner Escape drinks about a third as much gas as the Expy so it isn't all bad.
Ding ding ding...Broncoholic is the winner it would seem. They replaced the month old rear end fluid / modifier with new fluid and two bottles of friction modifier. Seemed OK this morning. I had started with the rear when chasing this out, but after the fluid change didn't work I was convinced it was in the front end. They did it for free, so it really was a nice solution although I could have saved the trip. I was just about to run out on my 100k power train warranty, and while it wasn't really concerning I could see myself forking out a grand or more for a rear end or front diff had I not gotten it checked out. In any event all the under car fluids are fresh as can be now.
Glad you got it figured out and fixed. And, especially before your warranty ran out. Sounds like you have a pretty friendly dealership - especially for doing the repair for free.
They have been pretty good, but I think I treat them well also. I've bought 3 cars from them and do most service with them. My biggest complaint with them is that their parking area is really tight and cramped. I've been standing there and seen cars get hit. I have gone to other dealers for things despite my loyalty to them just because of it.
