My rear tank gage works perfectly. My front tank gage stays pinned on full until it bounces back & forth. Then when it sett-les on a quarter tank, it works perfectly until it hits Empty.
Rich, I think it's your sender unit in tank. These models are notorious for wearing out senders. Don't know where your front tank is, hope it's easy to service. Good luck. Don
"Nothing lasts forever except natural stone and old Ford trucks." (Willie Nelson)
hi:
i had the exact same action with my vehicle.
(1989 F-250,XLT,4x4,351W,A/C,std cab,split window,160K (w/new motor @ 140K))
it is most likely your pump/sending unit that is causing the problem. also chk the integrity of the associated wiring harness.
i have replaced my pump/sending units and am in process of replacing the wiring harness.
the problem kinda went away or at least has changed, temporarily.
we have since found other challenges within the harness (corrosion/shorting), hence the replacement of the entire harness.
unfort, i have already spent approx $175 for each pump/sending unit and getting ready to spend the same for the new harness.
