prolems with 86 f250 diesel need help plz

i hav an 86 3/4 ton wit a 6.9 in it its 4x4 and runs decent. right now its very hard to start and its not even winter about the only way to start it first thing in the day is to hit it with starting fluid which i know is bad for it. plus my glow plugs are not getting juice to them but if you take a pair of pliers and stick each end on one side of the relay then they get power and the truck will start very easy so can anyone help with my little problem? i would really appreciate it thanks

Sounds like a bad relay or controller. You should post this on the pre-powerstroke page in the diesel page, just scroll a bit from here. There are some glowplug wiring experts on there.

mine was the temp relay on the back of the engine,

i also think i burned up the glow plugs from jumping them for too long.

I run mine by momentary switch. It isn't uncommon for the controller to fail on this series truck. Instead of jumping the heavy terminals, try jumping the purple wire terminal. If it starts fine that way, then it is the controller. BTW, both 6.9's I have running require glow plugs to start even in 80 some degree weather.
