Rotting out Superduties

Hi all,
I am the owner of 2002 F-250 PSD Crew Cab. I really love the truck but it's rusting everywhere. All four doors are rusting, oil pan is rusting and the the passenger rear wheel well is bubbling at 10 and 11 o'clock.

I might live in Illinois but this is ridiculous. I'm not the only one with this problem in my area. I'm seeing quite a few trucks with bubbling on the wheel wells and rotting out doors. What is the matter with Ford? Did they used recycle metal from Dodge trucks?

Who else has this problem and what year, location, condition (well taken care of, beaten up etc) and what have you done. I considering selling this truck. My 96 half ton rotted out and that trucks was always washed, waxed and garage kept from day one.

I have a 2003 f-250 lariet crew fx4, i live in coopersburg, pa and i take maticulouse care of it...2 weeks ago i had the hole roof repainted because the winshield leaked reall bad...when i had it pull out i found nothing but rust under fram of the window. all my doors are starting to buble and my back fender is starting to bubble too. It's really discuraging seeing a 5 year old truck given the care i gave it rusting out the way it is. but it is what it is.

I sold my bronco's and got an excursion to get away from rust! WTF!? This makes me that much closer to trading in on a diesel ram. If my body is gonna rot away I might as well get the fancy motor with it...

FOr teh record my truck was from tenessee, and in the chicago area for about 2 years and zero body rust anywhere so far. I will be removing door panels and smearing some grease along the insides of teh doors before the snow flies I can tell you that much! What are some other common rust spots? At least ford got it right and made my rear doors out of fiberglass. I guess they learned one lesson from the bronco's tailgates at least lol.

I wish I could deal with it. If it was 92 I could but it's only 6 year old truck. I' haven't seen any 02 chevys with rust. I think they have one the better corrosion resistant trucks out there.

Just looked at my 04 F250 work truck, sure enough theres rust water spots coming out of the drain holes on the bottoms of the doors. When will ford learn....

We have a beat up janitors 99 silverado, paint scratched off all over, door creased up and folded up so the door can open, no rust at all..... :/

I think I'm going chevy. Even if I bought a southern truck I bet it would still rust out.

Get some fluid film into the cavities. Use amsoil rust preventative hd which dries under the truck. You have to protect metal.. Or find someone who does waxoyl undercoating..

What do they use on the roads in winter in Illinois? No problems on my or my dad's '03s here in Oregon, and my truck was in Seattle for the first 4 years where it rains a ton.

Well the chicagoland area usually drops about 2" of salt for each inch of snow. Well thats what it seems like sometimes at least.

The body on my 02 F-350 Dump Truck (see signature) is in great shape--its the undercarriage and engine compartment that are rusting bad. The dump box is also rusting away. This is a plow truck in N.E. Ohio so I would expect some rust--but its bad...and I don't use it to spread salt. I bought the truck new and have always kept it very clean--weekly pressure washes in the winter months etc. My 02 F-250 on the other hand has no rust at all--top or bottom. It is almost never driven in the winter though.

I dont have a spot of rust on my doors or fender well on my excursion. Its a DD for N.E ohio even in the winter. The frame has bearly any rust on it to and it has 135k. I guess i got lucky lol. But it does see power washes after every snow storm and it gets waxed twice a week haha

I don't think buying a chevy is gonna make a difference. A friend of mine has a 2002 chevy he just replaced both cab corners and rocker panels. A guy i work with has a 04 chevy thats rusting out bad everywere. Both guys take really good care of there trucks.
