Yesterday I drove home from a business trip, about 160 miles, in the rain, a little cool. First stop was about a mile from home to pick up the mail, so I had been going about 3 hours non-stop. When I started the truck back up (after just a minute), I had no wipers, no radio, no heat, no headlights... best I could tell, no power to anything (although I did notice the ashtray light would come on when the headlight switch was on). Also noticed the ABS and BRAKE lights on the dash were lit. I limped home the last mile, blind in the downpour. When I arrived, I shut her off, and started back up, and everything was working (wish I had thought of that sooner!). Everything still working today.
Anybody got a clue what might cause this? Maybe a loose cable somwhere?
Sounds like your ignition switch could be going. I had a '95 Thunderbird that the switch was going out and sometimes it had to be jiggled to get the switch to return fully from the start position to the on posititon. You can get a new tumbler from Autozone pretty cheap.
