I'm looking to convert to a dual alternator system for my '79 Bronco. Can anyone suggest a wiring diagram. I would like to use twin 130amp to 140amp units, preferably single wire style.
Thanks.
wow what are you running that you need dual alternators ? if they are the sinde wire style couldnt you just hook both of the single wires up to the battery side of the solenoid ?
Interesting mod. I would use a standard alternator with external regulator. Mount the alternator somehow on it's own crank pulley. As for wiring - I would make the second alternator cockpit selectable as follows. Using a standard harness route the alternator field terminal to the regulator "f" tab. Ground wire from alternator to ground on one of the regulator mounting screws. Run a heavy wire from the alternator "bat" terminal to the hot side of the starter solenoid. The "sta" terminal on the alternator is not used. Splice the wires from the regulator "a" and "s" tabs together and run a wire from the splice to a switch on the dash that will provide 12 volts when the alternator needs to be turned on. The "I" tab on the regulator would not be used. Should provide enough juice to fire up a B-52 landing light. Good Luck

I went TDY to Minot in December. Cold, -3 degrees, windy, and everything was covered with snow - even all the Buffs -- Looked like something right out of a Jimmy Stewart movie. The locals love it. They wear t-shirts that read "Minot ND, -65 degrees keeps out the riffraff". The place is flat - infact - they say the state tree is a telephone pole. In spite of that the kids I worked with, mostly loaders, ammo troops, and metal techs, were great and doing a super job. Hope you get a follow-on there. You would be close to home and get to see a real (flying) classic every day.
