Project EF continues...

So as some of you know i've been building an 89 civic hatch back for a fun car and a semi dd so i can fix up my van. well so far, my shell still isn't home. however i do have my parts car @ my new home, and i have it stripped down almost completely. just gotta pull suspension and motor out and it can go to the j/y.

i bought a motor from a friend of a friend (D16Z6 aka 1.6l SOHC Vtec from a 95 civic hatch). tore it apart last night, found out the water pump was siezed up, and cylinders 2,3, and 4 need to be re honed to get all the rust out, as well as the rings need to be replaced, and the rod bearings to be safe (even though they look perfect right now, minus a few gouge marks from my friend pj trying to pry out one of the rod ends). the good part about all this is that the parts that are messed up are totaly re placeable and rebuild able. over the summer i've been accuiring misc. interior parts for the hatch... and am done w that minus what CD player i'm going to use. not sure on that yet. my swap did come w a worn out tranny, which is good cuz i can now use it as a core @ u pull it if i find a tranny that i like.

so here's the brake down on what i have:
89 civic hatch - base/DX/SI
full interior including hatch cover
D16Z6 engine
pretty strait body/clean title, no MAJOR body damage, just one shopping cart dent
OBX mandrel bent 3" cat back exhaust
98 Prelude bucket seats
ebay 320mm steering wheel
5star 13" rims that match all around
new radiator/thermostat

what i still need:
misc engine parts,
good front bumper (mines cracked and has a chunk half broken out of it)
5spd cable d series tranny
d series shift linkage
d series shifter (if that matters)
clutch, pressure plate, fly wheel, etc.
ecu
engine harness
battery tie down
oregon registration
cooling hoses
ac stuff (if it's not swapable from the d15b that i have)

enjoy these cool awsome pix of my motor (bleh!!)

before it was pulled apart:

and here's the head:

Thats a strange looking block, to me, but i am only well versed in SB v8 fords...
For all that water/rust in there, must be something other than the bad waterpump..beware! Also, you can really see the deposits of old coolant/precipitates attached to the block, thats where you will have a localized hot spot..on a US made v8, you never see this, but of course it's there...interesting.

yeah the rings on 3 of the 4 pistons where rusted to the pistons. luckily no holes were blown in them but... yeah i will be verry aware. i'm going to get all that rust removed from the cylinders, then (thankfuly school's starting soon, so i can use tools from school) i'm going to check for out of round ness, cylinder taper (or w/e the prosess of checking how wide each cylinder is @ tdc, bdc, and in the middle is called), and i'm looking for a machinist's strait edge to check for head and deck warpage (i think that's what it's called.) found out my other engine (the d15b) is supposed to have a smaller vtec head on it, but doesn't, so worse case senario i'm going to make it a vtec engine again and have 1.5l vtec as apposed to the 1.6. it should still run good and make decent power, being that the head is .1l more... lol

oh and marty, isn't what i have just half of what you work on? oh and i know it's not cheap, but i'm going w honda pre distilled 50 50 to avoid this problem again once it's cleaned up... i have a feeling the guy before me just ran water

Small block (5.0) v8 is cast in a manner that you do not see inside of the water jackets,
they have passageways, of course, similar to your head...and that is the view you get!

Hi gentlemen,

Since this subject is not relevant to the forum, I'll lock the thread. If not, we'll be pretty swamped with everything else beside Aerostars. Thanks for understanding.
