390 distributor

I was wondering how to tell if the pickup coil in the distributor is good or no good, is there a way to tell? My truck isn't getting any spark and i believe the dist. is no good. I do have a brand new points dist for the 390 and i was wondering if i could just wire that up and see it thats the problem. How do i wire the points one up? I have it all set up for electronic right now and want to keep it setup that way but would just like to try the points one to see if my electronic one is no good.

Thanks
Jeff

LAST EDITED ON 22-May-01 AT 09:31 PM (EST)[p]Jeff, all you need to do is run the wire from the points dist to the neg terminal on the coil.

If you can reach the terminals on the pick-up coil, put an ohmmeter on them, if you read an open, then the coil is bad. Sorry, but I don't know the resistance value on the p-u coil.
