The truck is a 1984 Bronco II, and it has a 6 cylinder with a carb (no computer). The last time I drove the truck everything was fine. It started right up with no problems. I come back to the truck approx. 2 weeks later and turn the key and nothing happens. Ok, first I checked the battery and that was good, so thats not the problem. When you turn the key the buzzer sounds, but when the key is turned all the way foward, I get absolutly nothing not even a click. I had a few ignition switches laying around and tried them, nothing again. Next I went to the part that is in between the battery and the starter, the silinoid I think. On the battery side it has power, on the starter side even with the key in the run position, I get no power. I went over to my F-150 and put the key in the run position and on the starter side there wasn't power either, but that truck starts fine. So this is where I am at. I have no clue what is wrong or what to look for. I am beside myself because I just drove the thing and it worked great, then I park it come back and nothing. Somebody please help me, I am desperate.
Yes that is the selenoid, there is a small wire going to it maybe 2 but one is labeled s and i you want the s terminal check it for power with the key in the start position , or if you want PLEASE MAKE SURE THE TRUCK IS OUT OF GEAR, and use a screwdriver to touch power from the battery post on the solenoid to the small terminal on the solenoid it should click and if your lucky even turn over , if it turns over you either have a bad safety neutral switch, ignition switch, clutch interlock , or wire.......is it a manual or automatic ? good luck
Hi, thanks so much for replying. I did what you said and jumped the solinoid, and low and behold it turned over. I have an automatic trans by the way. So whats next to check, and how should I go about it? I really appreciate you guys helping me get my truck running again.
To check the neutral start switch find the connector near the switch on the trans. If memory serves the wire colors are red with blue stripe. Disconnect the harness and test both wires for power while the ignition switch is held in the start position. If the ignition switch is ok you will have power on one of the two wires. If not the problem is in the ignition switch. If you have power on one wire then install a temporary jumper wire from one red/blue wire to the other red/blue wire and starter will work if the neutral start switch is bad. Make sure you are in park so you don't run over yourself.

Well, I go out to the truck this morning and jiggle the shifter around with it in the park position and turn the key and still nothing happens, so I put the shifter into neutral and try again, and what do you know, it starts . So then I turn the truck back off and put it into the park position again and this time it starts with the shifter in the park position. I am very pleased that my truck is starting again, but is this my neutral safty switch that is acting up? At this point I haven't replaced anything so I don't know where to go from here. This truck is not my daily driver so it does sit up for quite some time in between the times I drive it. Could this prolonged sitting cause these problems?
Thanks for all the wonderful help and ideas so far.
i would just replace the safety neutral switch the contacts in it are probably all dirty and pitted, i wouldnt say its from just being parked probably just a bad part from use
