Is it worth getting a spray on bed liner? My truck already has a factory installed regular type of bedliner. Would it be worth the upgrade and what are the advantages or disadvantages.
About the only disadvantage of a spray in liner is the cost of $400 or more. Not only does a plastic liner allow water to get between the bed and the liner, it chafes the bed paint which can accelerate the corrosion rate. I removed the OEM bed liner in my old truck after many years and had a spray liner installed.
It looked like it was an integral part of the truck rather than an add-on, the tie downs were more accessible and I could keep the bed drain holes near the cab cleaned out much more easily. Even though the rest of the old truck eventually turned into a rust bucket, the bed was in great shape!
I had a Line-X spray liner installed in the new one the same week I picked it up. I think it provided a bit of sound dampening as well.
Depending On What You Use The Bed For You Can Put A Nice Bed Rug Instead. If I Were Hauling Dirt, Rocks, And Such I Would Put A Spray Liner. For Me I Like The Padded Bed In Combination With A Tonneau Cover For My Road Trips And Such.
I have a hard cover on my bed with a plastic bed liner. So far (18 months and counting) the paint under the liner looks new. I think if I was going to spend money I would spend it on a cover.
I also thinking about getting the line x bed liner. I have the drop in one now and i'm tired of hearing smack the bed when i go over bumps. I also love the look of line x spayed beds. Personally i'm not a fan of the bed covers, i think they are more of a pain in the A$$ then anything. I like to be able to just throw stuff in the back of the truck and not have to fuss with a cover.
Agree. Spray-in rocks. I've heard of, and wanted to do, the whole underside of the Early Bronco to seal it once and for all. Frame-off in the coming in the near future.
Cant beat it.
depending on the dealer and which line of product you decide to get they can color the liner to match your truck as well. I have a 2005 f-350 grey in color and I had them rhino it the same color as the truck, cost was $445.00 and I am not dissapointed I got it.
A drop in plastic bedliner with a thin high density foam pad between it and the bed will
give you the same protection as a spray in liner plus better dent protection than with a
spray in. It also weighs less than a spray in. Water trapped under the drop in liner does not cause rust. If that were the case, your truck would rust from just sitting out in the rain. the rust occurs when the paint film is abraded (scratched) and the moisture is able to penetrate to the metal underneath. The high density foam pad, called a paint saver
prevents that abrasion and also dampens sound. The better dent protection comes from
the liner being seperate from the bed and being of a corrugated design. It's also less $.
