i have a 1991 f150 and if i let the truck sit for 2-3 days the battery goes dead. and that is from a full charge. the battery is good what should i look for? a bad ground on the truck????
please help.......
disconnect your negative battery terminal and hook a 12v test light between the terminal and the battery post if it lights up you have a draw on the battery which will discharge it slowly, dont forget to pull the radio/clock fuse or any other memory needing acceroies you may have, if you do have a draw the fun part is finding it
I agree with those guys. If you have a voltmeter, you don't have to remove the fuses in order to do the test. You will probably have a 9 or 10 volt draw and thats normal(from the computer, clock, etc.) Anything over that tells you theres an "excessive" draw. REMEMBER,TAKE OUT THE UNDERHOOD BULB...THIS WILL THROW YOU OFF! Look at you meter while pulling all the fuses one at a time. If the draw drops from the 12 volts to 9 or 10, thats the circuit you need to concentrate on. If none does it, try unplugging the alternator(a bad diode can make kill a battery pretty quick)
If you find no draw on your system, you need to do a load test on the battery. This simulates the load that the starter puts on the battery.
well i disconected the neg cable and hook my test light between the cable and the neg post and it lit up brightly so i had someone pull each fuse out, and back in if no change. one by one there was one fuse that made the test light dim down but not go out it was the fuse for the radio/dome light is it possible i have another problem???
hope this may help.. i had the same poblem w/89f150 4x4 5.0 found the problem in the ecc relay located on driverside behind the air filter box i spent lots of $$$$$ at local garage's and talk to a tech at a ford garage only to be told it was a relay that cost less than $ 20.00. could also be fuel pump relay. the are a common fault, and i always carry a spare for both .. good luck........
