I`ve read about the air filter {6637} that everyone swears by, Went to Napa, but did`nt know it was`nt reusable. I clean my K&N every 3 thousand when I do my oil change, I ended buying a washable cone style filter {poweradder} Not near as big as the napa but alot more than my stock air box with the K&N, How many miles are you getting out of the 6637 and does it have to have a cover?
2001, superchips programmer is the only mod, With 4 inch exhaust on the horizion.
6637 can go 15K depending on driving conditions. No the Pete's cover is not necessary, but keeps the filter cleaner allowing you to go longer before changing it. At least you got rid of the lame-o K&N drop in.
15-20K is pretty good on the 6637s but for 30 dollars a filter it is alright not to have to worry about oiling filters. Like Chase said you don't need the covers but they do help on extending the life of the filter. If you live in an extremely dusty enviroment it would be a pretty good idea to get the Ford AIS intake system which works almost as well as the other after market filters.
The only bad thing about the AIS is cost, but they darn sure filter really good. The AIS is basically the same as an OEM 6 leaker filter, which is known for flowing and filtering really well.
The 6.leaker airfilter is a pretty good set up I hear they don't need to upgrade unless they are making bigger horsepower. But when you compare the AIS to other systems on the market it is pretty well priced.
I have the AIS and love it. I don't necessarily live where it is real dusty, but I shouldn't have to change for about 70k miles, but when I do(they are non-reusable) it is going to cost me around $75. That being said I still like it better than the 6637.
I don't have a wife (although I am working on it) so I spend a little more on the truck than what I probably should. Which, BTW, I am finally starting to put mine back together.

Just make sure you get a good one (wife that is ) I'm lucky to have a good wife who mostly understands when I need to spend some $ on the truck, dirt bike, or snowmobile though she does give me lots of crap for it
Since I am planning on spending the rest of my life with her I am taking my time to make sure that it is the right one. I would post a picture, but there are too many ********** on here and she does not deserve to be talked about in that way. To the OP, sorry for the hijack.
AFE 6637(actually a different part number, see my galleries) $75-$95 depending on where you get it. Reusable, oilable, and has more filtering area than a 6637 (due to the inverted cone in the end of the AFE). The last filter I will have to buy
Knew it! knew it! knew it!. Should of come here first, I like Brandon`s idea. reusable. I did write the part number down. I`ll go for the last filter I`ll have to buy as soon as my wife forgets about the 55$ I spent on this end all, be all, never gonna need another one air filter!! 4 inch exhaust first. then new AFE 24-91042.
Ross
also, the AFE 24-91042 does an excellent job filtering like the 6637. IIRC on Brandon's used oil analysis, silicon was low at 8, at almost 6K miles on the oil sample.
