i have a 72 360 fe engine. i'm considering buying a set of rebuilt c4ae heads off of this guy tomorrow, but i'm still not sure if they will fit on my engine. please let me know what you think.. and i don't know the year for the heads, i just have the casting #.
thanks.
Those are a 1964 tall port heads, and will be a direct bolt on for your 360... I would ask tho "if" they have hardened exsaust seats in them when they were rebuilt.. Your D2 heads have the hardened seats for use with unleaded gas..
thanks. i think i might go ahead and pick em up tomorrow. the only reason i don't want to rebuild my original heads is because all the exhaust manifold bolts are rusted to the head and have to be drilled out. I got money but little time. i'll save the original heads though, for another project down the road.
the bolts are easily drilled out once removed from the engine. Took me all of 15 min a piece. And that is with a normal chuck drill. 3 bits, a punch, and a cold beer Half the time you get lucky and they snap off at the bolt head leaving a nice size stud to get at once the head is removed. The stud is usually stronger than the part close to the head and if you turn it tight first often helps to break it free to back it out. Patience and kreeping oil go a long way, soak them for several days before attempting removal.
