My glow plug harness is looking so ratty that I decided to buy one instead of cut and wrap to try and repair the old one.
The part that the IH dealer sold me is #1807648C94 and appears to be very different.
I am wondering if anybody here can verify the part number. I 'm not going to start cutting wires untill I'm convinced that it is the right thing to do.
I replaced my harness as well. However, it's a lot more inexpensive to take the harness back and buy some 10 gauge wire and some wire ends from the parts store. Just pick up some flexible wire conduit and your good to go.

Yea I may end up at the same point. I'm not real big on the idea of cutting a bunch of wires on the main engine harness. I guess I thought the IH dealers ewre capable of factory replacements.
I believe the harness is a dealer only part, which is why I did what I did and made my own. Believe me $20 is way more appealing than $150 and it works. Just make sure that your connection around the relay to the plugs fits under the protector cap.
I bought the GP wiring harness from IH for my truck awhile ago. And after unhooking the old harness from the GP relay and pulling it from the truck. I realized the harnesses were different. What i ended up doing was taking my old harness from the split loom and pulling out all the brown wires that go from the relay to the actual GPs. And since my old harness was in good conditon except for the 8 GP wires which almost all of the ends had broken off of. I just took the new harness out of the split loom pulled out the 8 GP wires from it and stuck them into my old harness and put it all back in the truck and hooked it back up.
I really dont think it was worth it to buy the harness from IH. I think i paid around $100 CDN and only ended up using half of it. I could of bought the wire and connectors i needed and repaired my old harness for way less.

Thats where I'm headed as well, I'll rebuild the harness in the morning. I'm also wondering if the parts guy got something wrong with my order. I pulled the reciept today to check what I paid, mine was $65, (U.S.). Maybe he knew I was going to find differences anyway and sold me the lesser cost item, giving him the benefit of the doubt, but I really don't see incompetence in either of the guy's at the counter.
NEWR/RON,
I'm in your neck of the woods, what Intl. dealer did you go to?
I like and use the Cummins dealer north of Eugene on I-5 but don't know a GOOD Intl. dealer around here.

"Good", well you'll have to make your own call on that. This is my first diesel and I've always pretty much used a combination of dealers, independant parts stores and forums to figure my vehicles out. My opinion is that each store is only as good as the person that greets you at the counter. NAPA in Dallas has a couple guys that are real good, then there are the rest of them. I use Brattain International for the IH specific parts and Skyline Ford for Blue Oval parts. So far both seem to have treated me reasonable.
Brattain has a shop in Springfield at 1075 International Way, phone is 541.747.2112.
I know self taught can get expensive, but at least I feel like I know whats going on with my vehicles. And if I can't fix it I always feel better talking to a professional when I'm not being a complete idiot, I do enough of that otherwise.
Check out this page......... they always had them...... their site has just been revamped. That number is a good one, there are a couple extra wires which we do not use but it works fine........

Thats the same harness I got, except with the opportunity to pay twice as much, of course.
The thing to watch out for is that the non-gp connectors are identical fits for the factory harness that connects to the IP, but the wires don't route the same. So if you jump in and start cutting and fitting, your in for some real bad surprises.
I may be in the same situation, trucks starting to get hard starting. The last time I did a glow plug troubleshoot ended with an apparently shot wiring harness. Although I didnt do anything about it at the time, Im thinking now it would be a good idea to repair it and either solve the problem or move on the the next potential problem. I recall looking into it a little and foind that the glowplug wiring from the relay to the bullet connectors are fusable link? 10 guage? Is this correct or am I thinking about something else? Also, would my local autoparts store have the correct bullet connectors?

Thanks.
For a good fit on the bullet connector you might carry one GP into the parts store and try it. I'm doubfull that you will find the bullet connector with the molded plastic insulator but there are many posts on this forum by guys that are using heat shrink tubing with good success.
The wire is 10ga. A main wire comes off of the controller and then the leads are crimped and soldered to it. I probably would not buy another new one. Even though I got what looks to be a pretty good deal you can still make your own for 1/3 of what I payed. Just be sure to get things well connected and well insulated. Pull the old one and lay it on a bench and copy it with new parts, if I get to a point where I need to replace this one that will be my approach.
So I've just taken the glowplug harness out of my truck. It seams to me that it has been replaced somewhere along the line. Looks like 10guage wire comming off each bullet lead, and spliced into what is a lager diameter wire back to the controller.
Would this be right? 10 guage fusiable link from leads to a regular larger wire and back to the controller? Or regular wire from leads into one 10 guage fusiable link back to the controller?
On a slightly related topic, while I'm in here with the harness relatively exposed, is there any other wires that I should be looking to replace?

I agree with your last sentence 100%, that's EXACTLY why I work on my own rigs and come on this forum for my IDIs!
There's a Brattain in Albany that I've never used. I know one of the mechanics somewhat. Maybe I'll give them a try.
All I really want right now is some of the newer style Intl. emblems to put with the chrome T 444 emblems I put on it. I want the ones the Intl. 4700s have, the little diamond shaped style.
