I want to strait pipe my 04 but its got a 6.0 on it and Ive herd its not good to do on the 6.0, not enough back pressure for the turbo to work correctly.
They say you can do it with the 7.3 with no harm but not 6.0
This may sound weird, but your exhaust just needs time to break in. When I first got my MBRP system and mounted my Aeroturbine near the downpipe, it droned and droned. As time went on, the drone went away and my exhaust note got deeper and more pronounced. Give your new pipes some time and things should get better as you go along.
When I did my MBRP exhaust I covered the entire inside of the cab with dynamat. No drone. Since I did both at the same time I can't say for sure I would have had problems without it. YMMV.
Welcome to the 6.0L drone club. Mine is dead on between 53-58mph. If I go 60mph it's gone. If I'm towing it's there till over 70 mph. I've done the sound deadening. Thinking about putting my cat back on at this point. Should a just stayed with the stock pipes.
I received an email about my 4040xl resonator this weekend. They tell me it should be here around Thursday.
Toreador,
How long did you have to let it break in or did you just get used to the sound?
I put over 2000 miles on the Magna Flow minus the aeroturbine and noticed no difference.
I'm about where Brians97f250crew is at, should of let the stock exhaust on. I have the CAT, I just need to find someone who wants to sell the rest of the system.
My 7.3L PSD with MBRP turbo back exhaust has no drone at all.
One more reason to own a 7.3L instead of a 6.0L?
Ok, ok...I'm kidding! I really have no intent to make this thread into "one of those" threads....
But it IS one more reason!!

Now Stewart, play nice.....lol

It takes more than just 2000 miles to get things broken in. With my truck, it all happened over the course of two years and thousands of miles. My Aeroturbine 4040 always had a deep, throaty, sound, but as time went on it got better. My muffler is also mounted as close to my down pipe as possible for the best performance; not near the rear of the truck.
I finally found time to put on my Aero Turbine XL on. I put it on in front of my Magna Flow muffler and also put some Quite Car undercoating on the bare metal over the exhaust. Took it for a test ride and noticed that the drone is less. It only seems to come on around 70 mph which is around 2000 rpms. I'm going to hook up the trailer and see what happens when it is under a load.
