Question for Number Dummy
This is the partial info from the Warranty Tag, can you decode it for me? Can I email you?
Missing Wheel base/Color. Other info is confusing though, MAX GVW=4800, this is an F250, shouldn't that be higher?
VIN, F25JE....
Model, F
Body, 85
Trans, G
Axle, 25
Max GVW, 4800
Cert Net HP, 129
RPM, 4000
DSO, 150192
F = F series truck, conventional cab
25 = 250 series(3/4 ton 2WD)
J = This is a 6 cylinder...it could be 2 different possibilities depending on the year...the last 6 numbers dictate that. its either a 223(61-4 or a 240(65)
E = Mahwah NJ assy.(it recently closed)
The way you have the rest of the tag laid out is a lil bit off...esp. the model and body...typically the model will list the entire model...F100, etc.
The 85 is whats called an "open drive away(includes windshield)"
This is a truck with windshield and nose but nothing else as far as a body goes beyond the windshield. There is no mention of if this does or doesnt include dash, but I would assume it does.
G = automatic trans... C-O-M Cruise -O- Matic
25 = this is a 4.56 rear end gear ratio...used only on 65 or 66 trucks, non limited slip.
4800 = trucks max GVW in lbs
129HP @ 4000 rpm...this is a 1965 240 6 cylinder engine(code J in VIN)
150192 = DSO(domestic special order) = 15 is Newark, NJ(where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from)
0192 is its special order number
This truck is definately an odd one since no WB...PLEASE post pics of this truck...as for the 4800lb gvw...that is the lowest GVW on 3/4 ton trucks. This particular issue has been looked into in great detail in recent weeks...the difference is the rear springs...in 65, there are 3 different rear springs used...7,10 or 11 leaves which dictates the GVW....
The sequential number of the VIN will tell you when the truck was built btw...
I hope this helps you a bit

On open drive away models, there is no cab, just the windshield.
An example of an open drive away would be your neighborhood Good Humor Man's ice cream truck.
See page 69 in the General Info Section of the parts catalog for a pic of one.
The SERIES code of F25 decodes to F250 2WD, it makes no mention of the cab type (page 33).
With a GVW of 4800 lbs, the MODEL code is F251, not just F (page 47). Look at it closely because there's an error. It is a 2WD.
This F250 isn't an open drive away model regardless, because there's no such thing as a BODY code of just plain 'ol 85.
Besides, open drive away models have no interior, no seat either.

The OP listed in-complete info.

1964/72 FORD TRUCK PARTS CATALOG / Also sold on ebay for a "Buy it Now" price of around $22.00.
This is the same ref (among others) that cs65 and the big Dummy is using here on FTE.
We also have the printed versions of parts catalogs that pertain to these years. One can never have enough refs.
cs65 also has sales brochures and other literature.
After cleaning out a dealer locally that just closed, I now have the accessory brochures for '65 & 66, also the Ford paint chips for '65 & '66.
And dozens of parts catalogs, 100's of microfiche slides, a microfiche viewer, other parts catalog refs like cross reference catalogs that are now stacked up in my garage.
Fellow members: Check your local dealer, there may something locally like the haul I just made from Pasadena Ford. The price I paid was ZERO, cuz it all was just gonna be thrown away.

No one has the original Ford springs new, maybe someone in the aftermarket sells them, dunno.
1957/72 rear springs are the same length/width. 1973 and later are wider.
