For the fellas that have put headers on there trucks. What are your opinions thus far. I was reading my MM & FF magazing and they did a 2v head story. Showing that a set of longtubes on a 4.6l is a solid 45 lbft of torque gain across the board and around 30 hp i belive. Thats pretty darn good.
Im thinking i need some headers for my 5.4l due to the fact that im running 4.6l manifiolds, and its probably really messing with my scavenge for the longer stroked motor.
pretty fair price really. and it would plumb right into my old cat back. i would get o2 eleminators for the rear sensors, and just leave the front O2's in the new headers.
Good idea on the stainless steel the only thing that i hate is you have to tighten the dam bolts after so long because the gasket expands from heat somehow the bolts loosen from this and if you dont tighten em they will blow the gasket yad yada and exhaust leak heaven
or so thats what the fella who installed mine told me they are shorty too might be different compared to the ones your lookin at but other than that they are awesome i would go for it
I hear longtubes help more with low end torque and help better with performance but some say they have had shorts and longtubes and didnt notice a different in the two but i noticed quite a bit with the shortys had more get up and go made the flowmaster 40s really deep and throaty than before just sounded pretty mean
Well long tubes will flow much better than the manifolds(obviously), but i would look at your y pipe.. alot of times they have horrible bends in them and a restrictive "y" in them.
But i guess if you get long tube headers you would have to change the y pipe anyway, so that shouldnt be a problem then.
well i am running a 5.4l on stock 4.6l manifolds, so theres probably some gain in there somewhere for me... ??? maybe????
No,no extra losses from the 4.6L manifolds from using them on the 5.4L.
The minimal gains from a set of "shorty" tubular headers on a stock 5.4L are nearly non-existent. Those headers you linked to are a good product, but the other restrictions on the engine itself won't make a justifiable gain for the money spent.

Like i was saying, my MM & FF magazine ( muscle mustange & fast ford) was showing 50 lb ft gains with long tubes on the 2v heads accross the entire rev range. And i know its not a flow issue with the 4.6l manifolds, but a scavenge issue.

A magazine that's paid by advertisers to test those advertisers parts to potentially sell those parts for an advertiser.
I've never seen any of the results of any magazine article's testing backed up in the real world.

Also, just for the record, OBX is an off brand name, consistly of mostly chinese stuff. Do you really want to put chinese headers on your truck? The company specializes in small imports, and most of what I have seen was very good looking, but was also made of thin materials. Since stainless steel gets brittle over time, if it is too thin, it will probably brake. Might I suggest getting JBA smog legal shorty headers. There are a few people here who can attest to the fact that they did see gains, and for street use, I just don't see the long tubes justifying the extra expense. The JBAs are a proven durable brand.
