Dust Seal Failure

'06 F-350 4x4 w/ 11k miles. I just noticed that I have an axle housing dust seal resting on the end of one of my front axle shafts, just behind the u-joint on the drivers side. My question is, since the truck is about to come out of warranty, is this seal something I should have the dealer replace? It seems like a lot of work to just replace a dust seal, considering nothing else is wrong in the front end (knock on wood). Also, what are some things they might manage to mess up while replacing this part?

If it's under warranty, get them to do it. I can't imagine them screwing up much unless they let an oil-change dude do the job

Definately let them do it. Maybe they will discover some other warranty work that needs to be done..... ball joints, hub/brg assy

Thanks guys, I'll have them do it. They just got finished replacing my rear brakes under warranty and did a "21 point inspection" so I was surprised they didn't discover this. Oh well, hopefully it won't take them too long, I hate being without her!

Appointment made. Service manager said this is the second request like this today. He also apologized for them not finding it earlier this week when it was in for service.

krewat: the 21 point inspection was free, so I suppose "you get what you pay for" holds in this case as well
