For as long as I can remember the belt(s) make a quick "squeak" noise when the engine shuts off. Is this normal? Time for new belts? No idea on how old the belts are but the engine was rebuilt about 15k miles ago.
IMO its because the engine is so tight like mine (11K) that when it is turn off the engine from all the compression stops very quickly. Now, everything has a momentum going and they try to keep rotating thus resulting in a squeak.
My X has 69,000 miles on it. I upgraded to a 160 AMP alternator. The upgrade alternator had a smaller pulley on it then the OEM 110 AMP alternator. So when I installed it, I got a squeak that was not present before. The belt was the original one. I installed the OEM alternator pulley on the 160 AMP alternator and I had just a slight squeak. I installed a new Goodyear Gatorback belt and the squeak went away. I noticed when I installed the Goodyear belt it took a lot more effort to get it on the alternator pulley then with the old belt.
I never had the squeak noise before, until my alternator went bad. I replaced it with a 200A HO alternator, since that I'm getting the noise when I'm turning the engine off, so I'm sure that DSMMH had the quick - one too, just like mine.
I have the exact same problem, but when it is humid (which here in the midwest, it almost always is) the belt squeaks all the time. I have the dual alternators and would also like to know if anybody has the part #s for thr replacement Gatorback belts.
I found this online, it is very informative, I am going to go to an auto parts store and see if they can cross-reference the belt #'s to Goodyear Gatorback, then I will post my findings http://www.midwaytruck.com/Ford%20Pr...rts%20List.pdf
So is it safe to assume the guys with the factory heavy duty alternator upgrade has this issue and the standard alternator guys dont?
I have the optional heavy duty one and my buddy's 07 doesnt.
