I'm really nervuos about my headgaskets blowing. What is the ballpark price I could expect to pay to have the ARP studs installed when mine blows. Will Ford install the ARP studs? Also I heard all of the diesels have a 100k warrant on the engine. Is that true?
remember that alot of the people who come here are looking for help after they've had a problem.. there are more 6.0's on the road than there are posters here with problems...don't worry until you actually have something to worry about..these are great trucks, and the 6.0 isn't as bad a motor as it's reputation might lead you to think..
if you do have an issue, some dealers may install studs if a HG R&R is necessary..you have to buy the studs and pretty much any related failure after the install is on you(no warranty)..
if you have to get the gaskets done out of pocket, the prices can vary greatly...a dealer may charge up to $4000 for the repair(P&L)..
an experienced tech with his own shop may do it for $2000(P&L)...
you'll have about $400 for the studs, and $500 +/- for gaskets and related incidentals..
The ARP studs run around $500 depending on where you get them. The actual cost of replacing the bolts with studs is going to vary widely depending on dealer, area, etc.
Yes the engine has a 5 year 100,000 mile warranty. Also, you can buy an extended warranty from Ford to cover up to 7 years 200,000 miles as long as you are still within the factory warranty period.
If you aren't running some sort of tuner, or driving around drag racing everybody I really wouldn't let the head gasket thing worry you too much. Just pay attention to how the truck runs.
Also try to find a dealer that is cool with mods. I found one who changed out my head gaskets under warranty and installed some ARP's at the same time (at no extra charge to me). My dealer even suggested the ARP's as he said they will hold up better than OEM.
Agree with riggz, find a mod friendly dealer. My service guy got me in and installed ARPs for me under the warranty, he then showed me what they actually billed Ford for it and it was right at $3000 for the job.
