I found my truck (03 6.0L) in the parking lot to day with a small puddle of oil under it, bend down to take a look and it has oil all over the left side comming from high up. So I drive over to the dealership I get service at and explain the problem. The service manager says it sounds like the High Pressure Oil Pump o-ring is leaking and they just finished one earlied that day on another customers truck. The truck still runs and seems to maybe have a little more lag from a dead stop then goes fine. Shouldn't the truck run worst or not at all if the HPOP has a leak? They told me 12hrs to fix if that's the problem. Anyone think that sounds right.
The hpop is contained in the engine if it leaks it will leak into the oil pan. I have my 03 torn apart right now trying to trace down a starting problem that I've been lead to believe is a leak in the hpop system. I found a leaky o-ring on mine but like I said it would leak inside the engine. If your leak is coming from high up on the left rear (almost at the belhousing) then you leak could be either a bad icp sensor, or a leak from the ipr solenoid. I replaced my icp sensor about a month ago because it was leaking from the connector where the wiring harness plugs in and setting a code. The cam sensor is also on the left just behind the power steering pump. And the glow plugs have been known to leak on these motors also. 12 hours seems high to replace sensors, or ipr.
I agree.A hpo leak is internal. The dealer is full of crap. The icp sensor is likely the culprit,do a search. If the harness conector is soaked replace at the same time.
