Congratulations! You just proved fuel mileage varies from tank to tank.

There have been several objective scientific studies on these and they all proved there is absolutely no repeatable or statistically valid improvement when using them. IE, they don't do a darned thing.

Most consumers who buy them report a difference at first. Unfortunately, that is because they consciously or subconsiously change their driving habits to make sure they get an improvement to justify the expense. But eventually, habits return to normal and things return to where they were. A variation on the Hawthorne effect.

In BLIND tests (install it on a vehicle without the driver knowing), there is NEVER any difference.

I just checked the website for Fitch, and right away I saw one thing that makes me doubt anything else they say. It claims that the Fitch fuel catalyst improves both octane and cetane ratings. This is pretty much impossible becasue the two are measurements of opposite functions. Cetane is a measure of how easy a fuel auto-ignites, and Octane is a meause of a fuel's resistance to auto ignition. So how can an additive make these fuels both easier and harder to ignite?

I tend to believe it's snake-oil. There are a bunch of things out there, including one that was said to improve diesel mileage and all it did was supposedly change the "direction of flow" or some such nonsense. They had a study of some heavy-duty diesels in a couple of different fleets, and they all saw a mileage improvement.

Of course, they told the drivers, which makes the entire study pointless. Meanwhile, some other company that did it and did NOT tell the drivers never saw any improvement.

The best part about the one I'm talking about was that you could put it anywhere - in the common rail system, or even behind a mechanical injection pump - which means it did absolutely nothing to the "flow".

Anyway... save your money. Make sure your tires are inflated enough, and stop pressing the pedal down so far
