The last rods I did was for my 429. Can't remember the weights though. I bought my scale from Jegs. Its a small gram scale. I think it was about $160. I made the pistons, rods and pins match the lightest ones and then had the machine show balance the rest.
i am curious to know how much the 400 rod weighs in comparison to a BBF or BBC rod that is 6.7 or 6.8 long.
well you can't compare factory rods of ANY motor to aftermarket stuff. the 6.7 and 6.8 rods are NOT factory they are aftermarket only. Also there is no such thing as BBF or BBC 6.7 or 6.8 rods (and the stroker BBFs use the rods but have BBC rod bearing and piston pin dimensions so not really distinguishing there either)
So to compare them you would have to know WHICH 6.7 or 6.8 rods you want to compare against Hbeam, billet Ibeam, forged Ibeam, alum on and on (I do have a set of Oliver Billet 6.7" rods sitting here if you really want to know )
and on top of all that why try to compare stock rods of one engine family with aftermarket stuff of a completely different engine family?
