I just picked up a 04' F250 HD Edition last night and am in love!!!
But, one minor annoyance right now......the front drivers side hub cover is ratling. I think that is the proper name for it. It's the cover that goes in the center of the wheel.
Anyone know how to fix it? I haven't had time to investigate as it was dark when I got home with her.
The only time my cap made any noise was when I didn't get the clip holding the locking hub in seated properly and the hub and clip came out and where rolling around in the cap.
Do you have the OEM covers? There may be rocks or other things down in the cover. I don't see the cover itself being able to make much noise but you never know.
If that's not the case then you sure it's the cover making noise and not the locking hub?
Yes it is the cover itself. You can wiggle it by hand. It is on there securely, but still has a lot of play and thus rattles when the wheel is rotating.
My '04 H-D has the same issue, one center cap that rattles (only noticeable at real low speeds). I have been to busy/lazy to try and find a solution, but the problem appears to be the wheel and not the cap. I have a brand new center cap which I bought after I lost (not as secure as you may think) the first one on the road somewhere and it does the same thing, so I have been running the truck with out them. The other 3 caps fit nice and tight.
